What is it to be conservative? Why do some consider it a good thing to be conservative? Why do other consider it to be a bad thing to be conservative? There are a lot of points of view and I wanted to have my say here.
To be conservative means that you are looking at life and those who live around you and choosing to live in a way that prolongs life and allows those around you to live more freely. I know that many will say being conservative in living constricts or prohibits what life can be and what a person can be, but does it really? Is choosing to live and back up laws that allow others to live really constrictive?
Yes, some laws will not allow, for instance, the illicit use of drugs and alcohol. But I ask you, do you really need those drugs to enjoy life and those who live around you? Can you really enjoy life in a haze or racked up with so many hallucinations that you become paranoid and eventually can’t tell what is real and what is not? Can you really enjoy life when you end up doing something that you would not normally do that would end with you in prison, away from family, friends, and continued freedom?
Or how about when you strung out on some drug so bad that you can’t even drive straight, ending in the slaughter of a innocent person or an innocent child? So, how much freedom would you have then, when you come down from that high and realize that you just took a life and destroyed the lives of all those who loved that person? You can’t escape your own conscience. And you won’t be escaping justice.
Or you could live a sober life, enjoying everyone and everything in the world around you while in your right mind. You wouldn’t have to worry about the law being after you or the endless suffering of your own conscience reminding you of things you’ve done wrong. You could maintain a job on a permanent basis. You could pass your interview and your drug tests. And you could make more money than you could ever spend. You could be considered trustworthy and solid in your relationships with others.
