Interesting Oil Facts

I know, I know.  A lot of people out there are screaming about oil.  Some are yelling for the lack of it and want us as a country to drill within our own nation and along our own shores.  “Let’s get rid of our reliance on foreign oil,” they say.  They want our nation to be self reliant and industrious, as we know we can be.  Proven historic fact.

Others say that we shouldn’t try to drill our way out of the ‘oil crisis’.  There is only so much of the oil product in the crust of our earth.  And we might damage our earth and environments.  Instead, we should be industrious and invent new energy technology that will continue our nation forward and onward into the future, limit and eliminate pollution if possible, and get rid our our ‘addiction to oil’.

There is nothing wrong with oil.  It is a natural substance found on this earth, as are many other oils.  It is simply harvested in a different method.  And there is nothing wrong with the substance itself.  It is used in most industries.  From the grease to lubricate joints in machinery, to the plastics we use day in and day out in our kitchens, at our desks, and in nature.  It is recyclable.  It has many different forms and uses.  It is reusable.  And it can be made to last a long time for persistent use.  Along with oil being used for fuel and burned to create energy and to move our nation forward through the shipping of products nationally and internationally, oil can also be harvested in safe and clean ways.  It is not running out and there is more to the arguments than the Democrats portray when they say there are idle leases not being used .

There are drawbacks to all energy options though.  And we must be careful if we want to shift as a nation from doing what we once have done to what we can do to improve.  Those who want to improve alternate energies and have Americans use them don’t seem to be thinking about the transition period in going from one energy to another.  You can’t just be an oil industry nation and the next day not be.  In a perfect world of unreality, maybe.  But in reality, it is impossible.  Be careful and be informed.  Listen to both sides and question whether what is being said and if it makes sense.
