So many out in the media and scientific locales have been saying that polars bears are decreasing in population. In some cases, up to 22%. Many have argued that the polar bear estimates have increased from the 1950’s and 1960’s estimates of 850 to the new current estimate of 20-25,000. Others have countered-argued that there were no solid facts on these estimates in the 1950’s and 1960’s. But these counter arguments seem to have decided that the Inuit’s estimates, those who actually live in the polar regions, don’t count.
New knowledge in the science community shows that estimates of decreasing numbers are incorrect. New information shows us that the Inuit’s have it right. Inuit’s have long reported that there are a lot more polar bears than there used to be. When local knowledge and scientific estimates agree, you have two seperate testimonies proving that data is valid.
Seal populations have increased in the polar regions, and now there is a lot more for the bears to eat and reproduce on. Now there is a new problem for the humans who do live near them and have legally been restricted to killing only 6 polar bears a year. And they only kill those that wander into their communities. What happens when numbers 7, 8, 9, or 10 who wander into their neighborhoods? Do you think these humans are going to care about their restrictions?
And apparently these bears are adaptable. Often travelling on floating ice and also hunting on the land as well as their normal sea habitat. And all without human interference. These bears know how to deal with nature and it’s natural rhythms. Why can’t the humankind stop over-analyzing? Why can’t we humans stop posting ourselves in the God-like position of affecting the earth’s atmosphere and animal populations with every choice in life?
